About me

Hello!

A-KhyA3CUAAnCK_.jpg-large

I’m the one smiling on the left

I’m Kelly, and I’m a registered dietitian (RD), marathoner and fairly impatient, always-in-a-hurry New Yorker.

I started this blog a couple of years ago to talk about the things I like (running! nutrition! food!) and have since documented my journey towards becoming an RD, training for multiple marathons, experiments in the kitchen and random life musings.

I’m about to begin a long-awaited career as a dietitian, am training for the ever elusive BQ (Boston Qualifier) this spring and looking forward to figuring out Life After Grad School when I officially graduate with my Master’s in Clinical Nutrition in May.

I can’t promise my posts will be free of typos or profanity, but they will for sure be 99.9% honest and real. Thanks for reading!

Your blog is well-written – I came across via FAGE.

Your stories take me back to my younger days – I, too, worked full-time in NYC while getting my Master’s at NYU – in Public Finance. I loved running in NYC – sometimes late at night after work & classes. Actually found that less scary (running on the sidewalks at 11 PM) than in the suburbs later on…I started running around WSq Park. I ran so many NYRRC races with my sister & family – the Midnight Run was a tradition. Thanks for “jogging” my memory! PS – I am raining for my second marathon – in 20 years! – this May. Trying to learn how to run on the treadmill as I live in Vermont & the roads are just too icy to sustain any distance.

    Best wishes!

      thank you so much :)

Just found your blog and I love it! I’m really impressed that you took the leap and are going to school part-time for your masters. I thought about doing the same (for the same degree) but was too intimidated by the thought of trying to balance it all and the number of years it would take. Maybe I’ll see you at a NYRR race this year!

    • http://mealsformiles.wordpress.com mealsformiles

Thanks Lisa! Doing it is possible, trust me :) Would love to meet up at a race sometime!

I’m in love with Magnolia Bakery! I love the keylime cheesecake! Wow, it’s prob so bad-but it’s so good. :)

  • Meggie

I’m running a marathon, as well, on May 1 but in NJ. How’d you pick the Eugene one — is it flat? from there? Always looking for flat races!

  • Meggie

forgot to mention I also live in NYC and go to NYU–am in medical school here. I took one of their nutrition classes as an undergrad. It was awesome. And, also trying to run sub-3:40 in May. Good luck to you!

Hi! I’ve been secretly reading your blog for a while and I just want to say I love reading it!

I’ve been thinking about going back to school for nutrition for sometime now, can I ask what school/program your in? Do you enjoy it? What do you plan on doing after?

    • http://mealsformiles.wordpress.com mealsformiles

thank you!! :) I’m at NYU’s nutrition and dietetics program and it’s awesome! I plan on getting my RD (soon!) and working as a dietitian. As to what I’ll focus on – I’m not quite sure yet but look forward to figuring it out!

Hi Kelly! I found you through Ali’s blog at Ali on the Run that I read every now and then. I think nutrition is an excellent compliment to your passion for running because what’s a hungry, hungry runner going to eat that is good? ;) I also started running too… (I’m mid-way through Couch to 5k) and I love how it feels like my detox and it can be rejuvenating for my mind, body and spirit in just those short of 3.1 miles… so I can only imagine how you feel as a distance runner!

Will be checking back on your blog every now and then!

    Take care,

    Vanessa

    • Kelly

Hi Vanessa, thanks so much!! :)

    Hi,
I am interested in going into the nutrition field. I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. I was wondering what you majored in when you were an undergraduate and if it effected going into the nutrition field later on. Any advice or regrets that you wished you had known? Thanks! I love your blog and read it daily.

    Best,
    Rachel

Hi, thank you! I majored in Journalism for undergrad because I had no idea what I wanted to do. It definitely made for a LONG journey once I decided to go back to school a few years later and I had to take prerequisites for 2+ years (I went part time while I worked full time). Totally wish I would have decided what I wanted to do earlier, but hindsight is always 20/20 :-)
